Knights of the Shed 2025
This summer at Knights of the Shed, we delved deep into the world of education, exploring the importance of learning for both individuals and society as a whole. Guided by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, specifically Articles 28 and 29, we pondered some big questions:
- Why is education important for everyone, not just me?
- What would the world look like without education?
- How does education benefit me personally?
We discussed various learning styles, from listening to speeches to engaging with visual aids. We debated whether learning is more effective when focused on a single technique or when combining different approaches.

Prioritising Learning Goals
As a group, we ranked the most important aims of education, sparking lively discussions and ensuring everyone’s perspective was heard. We then brainstormed practical ways to learn about each topic, considering the role of both formal education and informal learning experiences.
Learning at KotS
At Knights of the Shed, we focus on developing essential social skills and understanding human behaviour. We explored how our learning activities connect to the broader aims of education outlined in Article 29 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
A Learning Experiment: Mastering “Love Letter”

To test the impact of different learning styles, we attempted to learn the card game “Love Letter” using four different methods: reading instructions, listening to explanations, following a visual guide, and solely relying on the game pieces. We then compared our learning experiences when using a combination of these methods.
Key Takeaways
These three weeks at KotS were filled with learning, both academic and social. We learned about the value of education, explored different learning styles, and applied our newfound knowledge to our group activities.
- Education is a fundamental human right that benefits both individuals and society as a whole. Social Skills Link: Our actions have consequences for ourselves and others. Education empowers us to make informed decisions that contribute positively to society.
- Effective learning often involves a combination of different approaches and caters to individual learning styles. Social Skills Link: Different perspectives – we recognise that people learn and process information differently. By embracing diverse learning styles, we can better understand and connect with others.
- Real-world learning experiences, like those at KotS, provide valuable opportunities to apply knowledge and develop essential life skills. Social Skills Link: Applying our understanding of social situations to navigate interactions effectively can be hard work. Real-world experiences provide opportunities to practice and refine social skills, such as communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.
We encourage everyone to continue exploring new things, embracing diverse learning styles, and recognising the profound impact of education on our lives – both personally and socially.
