Our Story

In 2019, Paul and Ashe, a couple with a shared passion for supporting the development of young people, rolled the dice and founded Knights of the Shed.

Having worked in public education for many years, they understood the importance of creating a safe and supportive space for connection. Inspired by Paul’s experiences finding solace and community through playing Dungeons & Dragons in sheds, from his teenage years in an old horse shed on family farmland to his “dragon den” in Hobart, they combined their expertise to develop a unique therapeutic approach.

Naming the business was easy; the shed symbolises connection, friendship, family, and home – values they strive to foster in their work. And “Knights” refers to the participants, empowering them to embark on their own personal quests for growth and development. The playful name also signals the organisation’s lighthearted and approachable atmosphere, emphasising that growth and learning can be fun.

Today, Knights of the Shed welcomes over 100 participants each week, offering small group therapy and various services. With a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, they continue to grow and evolve. The overwhelming support from their community, including participants, families, and professionals, has been instrumental to their success.

And what about Paul and Ashe? Their partnership, both personally and professionally, continues to thrive, proving that sometimes, the greatest adventures are born from a shared vision and a roll of the dice.
